PURPOSEThe Chaplain is a core member of the interdisciplinary team and provides for the spiritual needs of our patients, families, caregivers, staff, volunteers, and facility staff.  The Chaplain will also provide pastoral care interventions, including pastoral counseling which is determined by a spiritual assessment and sensitivity to a variety of values, beliefs, and religious orientations.  This position seeks excellence in pastoral care, which requires an authentic demeanor, compassion, and skill in dealing with the spiritual dynamics of illness, loss, death, and grief.

Job Description:

  • Provide spiritual assessment, counseling, and support to patients, families, and facility staff. 
  • Participate in the preparation, evaluation, and execution of the interdisciplinary care plan to ensure that the aim of continuity and comprehensiveness of care is accomplished.
  • Provide spiritual care in a non-judgmental manner that honors the spiritual needs of the patient/family and others.
  • Visit patients and call family on birthdays with an appreciative presence at the bedside.  If possible, include Grace and facility staff in your visit.
    • If the birthday falls on a weekend or holiday, then a belated visit within a few days is appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, IDT.
  • Facilitate linkage to community clergy as desired by patient/family.
  • Perform memorial and funeral services for patients at contracted facilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Divinity or related field preferred
  • Advanced Training of at least one unit of clinical pastoral education preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience in health care preferred
  • Knowledge of the spiritual issues common during illness, death, and bereavement
  • Endorsement by denomination preferred
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills
